The START team conducted a literature review of studies published from 2019 - June 2023 on HPV Natural History and resolved issues with extracted information from articles identified in a previously conducted literature review. This previous literature review covered articles prior to 2019 and was completed by Emma Oriol. Results will be used to inform a cervical cancer model in order to better estimate the impact of potential HPV and cervical cancer prevention strategies.
START RAs conducted title/abstract screening in Covidence of more than 2,800 articles published since 2019, which were indentified using PubMed, Embase, and grey literature. Ultimately, 67 studies met inclusion criteria. Detailed narrative data were abstracted from these studies for the following parameters: HPV Infection (24 studies), HPV Clearance & Persistence (38 studies), Progression (38 studies), and Regression (12 studies). The primary deliverables provided were a master spreadsheet with metadata and details of all studies from which data were extracted, parameter-specific spreadsheets for each of the parameters identified by the client, and an updated spreadsheet resolving issues with extracted information for the pre-2020 literature review provided by the client. Where possible, the proportion of individuals who experienced a change in state within a given time was extracted from each study and included in separate columns in the parameter-specific spreadsheets.
