Vanessa Encina is the START Center Coordinator. Vanessa graduated from Portland State University with a B.S. in Health Studies with a concentration in community health education. After graduation she served in the AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer program for six months working as the Program Assistant for a childhood obesity prevention program. She provided coordination and management support to promote healthy eating and active living. Vanessa has over 10 years of experience in healthcare administrative and coordination positions, supporting daily operational and administrative functions. Before joining UW, she worked as the Administrative Assistant in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. Vanessa also has experience working for non-profit organizations. She interned for a community-based food sustainability program called Portland Fruit Tree Project and regularly volunteers for Lift Urban Portland as a wellness planning volunteer, engaging participants to help build community capacity and providing health education.
