Literature Review on Oral Cholera Vaccines Since September 2009

Literature Review on Oral Cholera Vaccines Since September 2009

There is increasing evidence that oral cholera vaccine (OCV) is an effective method of cholera control in both endemic and epidemic settings.

With this in mind, the START team was charged with conducting a review of the literature on oral cholera vaccines since late 2009, to identify the most up to date information on effectiveness of both Dukoral and Shanchol (the two currently licensed OCVs), evidence of herd immunity, vaccine cost-effectiveness, new vaccine development, and feasibility of vaccine delivery strategies and endemic and epidemic settings.  Deliverables included results from this review of the literature, a corresponding annotated bibliography, and a slide deck detailing out findings.
