Project Snapshot: Family Planning Survey

Project Snapshot: Family Planning Survey

On February 16, 2016, The Strategic Analysis, Research & Training (START ) Center team successfully completed their 84th Work Order for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation—an analysis of domestically-financed national surveys in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Led by UW graduate students Allison Osterman and Tracy Lam-Hine, and mentored by Dr. Joseph Babigumira and Dr. Emer Dooley, this project analyzed the costs associated with administering domestically-led household-level surveys on indicators of family health and well-being in LMICs.  The team concluded that national surveys by LMICs are rarely administered without significant financial and technical support from international donors, and while national-level survey institutions exist in most LMICs, capacity building is required to improve survey data quality.
