Recently Completed| The Mobile Technology for ASRH project

On March 8, 2016, The START Center team successfully completed the Mobile Tech for Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) project for the Gates Foundation. Led by graduate students Aakanksha Veenapani, Jessica Long, Darius Chen, and Tracy Lam-Hine, and mentored by Dr. Emer Dooley, the project aimed to increase the foundation’s understanding of how to improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health outcomes in developing countries. The end goal of this six-month project was to help better inform future investment decisions that the foundation’s Family Planning team is interested in undertaking.

To deepen the foundation’s understanding of the landscape, the START team conducted a literature review on peer-reviewed publications and gray literature, interviewed field experts, and created a framework to help categorize and warehouse field research. Our key takeaways validated the Foundations belief that mobile technology is effective for showing improved ASRH behaviors and outcomes in low resource settings. Team deliverables included current known best practices, areas for further research, and a hypothesis for the way forward.
