Jonathan Muir holds a PhD in Sociology from the Ohio State University and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. Jonathan was a Fulbright Fellow and conducted field research in Cambodia for his dissertation, which investigated intergenerational effects of the Khmer Rouge genocide on child health and development. For this project, Jonathan worked in close collaboration with the Mekong Integrated Population Registration Areas of Cambodia (MIPRAoC) project and the National Institute of Public Health in Cambodia. Prior to this Jonathan also has experience facilitating international development/public health projects in Cambodia and Thailand and assisting victims of human trafficking from Southeast Asia. He maintains his love of Southeast Asian languages with regular study of Khmer, Indonesian, and Thai and is a seven time Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow.
Regarding his time with the START Center, Jonathan shared that, "Working with multidisciplinary teams of faculty and students as a research assistant with the START Center offered invaluable experience working on projects of immediate importance and application while obtaining excellent mentoring and training. I'm confident that looking back, I will see my experience with START as a trajectory changing moment in my career."
Jonathan currently works as a Epidemiologist at Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS).
