Ben Sullivan is a PhD student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Washington.  Previously, he obtained an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UW, where his research focused on designing and building innovative cookstoves as an alternative cooking method for East Africa.  After graduation, he worked in the Applied Sciences Group at Microsoft as a research engineer, advancing next generation printed, textile, and flexible electronic technologies.  Since returning to graduate school, Ben’s focus has been on developing point-of-care diagnostic devices for low-resource settings.  His research interests and areas include diagnostic technologies, sample preparation, and microfluidic electrokinetics.
