Cirilus Osongo is an MPH student in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Health at Maseno University. Prior to joining START, Cirilus spent over a decade with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), coordinating HIV prevention and treatment for patients in rural clinics, integrating cervical cancer screening in Ministry of Health HIV clinics in Western Kenya, training staff on screening and precancer treatment approaches, and developing cervical cancer education materials. Most recently, he conducted trials on a self-administered topical cream as an alternative to traditional cervical precancer ablation or excision treatments. He also led a tobacco use cessation intervention study to support people living with HIV in their efforts to quit smoking. He is interested in using quantitative epidemiological methods to design and implement public health strategies aimed at improving the LMICs.
