SOFIA DONOVAN

MPH Student in Global Health
Research Assistant

Sofia Donovan is an MPH student in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. She graduated from the UC Davis University Honors Program (UHP) in 2019 with a BS in Biological Sciences and a minor in Human Rights. During undergrad, Sofia was exposed to global public health while volunteering with a small NGO in Papua New Guinea (PNG). She centered her UHP capstone on the challenges to implementation of global health principles and then returned to PNG with a grant from the UC Davis Blum Center for Developing Economies to continue her community health work, focused on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Sofia has five years of professional research experience in biotechnology supporting the development of novel targeted oncology drugs, two of which are set to begin clinical trials this year. She is passionate about addressing health inequities with evidenced-based solutions. Through her MPH and work with the START Center, Sofia hopes to expand her quantitative skills and apply her scientific background to addressing global health challenges effectively and sustainably.
