In October 2016, the START Center launched the Gut Health Digest to support the Enteric and Diarrheal Diseases and Discovery teams at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This monthly literature review summarizes new publications in the peer-reviewed literature that inform the field of environmental enteric disease diagnostics and therapeutics in low-resource settings. The START team, comprised of one research assistant and a faculty lead, conduct a monthly search to identify articles of relevance to the field and of interest to the Foundation team. START researchers select ten key studies to highlight in each digest, summarizing the important findings and providing brief critiques of study design, methodology, or analysis features that may be important for stakeholders to consider when using the results to inform real-world projects.
