START kicks off 2017-2018 with 5th annual retreat

START research assistants, faculty, and staff gathered in Leavenworth, WA for a two-day retreat in preparation for our 7th year of operation. The retreat focused on team building and training in key skill areas. Trainings provided research assistants tools for strategic communication, project management, leading productive meetings, and participating as an effective team member. The retreat sets the tone for a productive year ahead, leaving everyone with a common understanding of the methods and expectations employed to deliver high-quality work to our clients.

The retreat was a great success and wonderful beginning to the 2017-2018 year. Below, two incoming START research assistants share their retreat experience.

START Research Assistants enjoy a post-retreat hike

The START retreat was a great opportunity to meet fellow STARTers, bond as a team, and learn about all of the exciting work that the START Center is doing. It was a fun and informative two days that made me excited to start my tenure with the START team!

The START Retreat was an excellent opportunity for first and second-year research assistants to work alongside faculty and staff to receive training in project management, organizational structure, communication, and team-building. Surrounded by fragrant pine trees and log cabins–far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life in Seattle–we were able to reconnect with ourselves and each other. My most meaningful takeaway from the retreat was an appreciation for the START faculty and staff. Their support of our professional development and personal growth is truly unique. I am thrilled to begin this journey learning from and working with START Center!
